Annemarie’s professional experience includes more than 20 years counseling adults, adolescents, children, and families with PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship and parenting problems, divorce, grief/loss, trauma histories, physical illness, anger management, women's issues and life transitions. Annemarie has a passion for empowering individuals to nurture and connect with their authentic selves.
Annemarie’s therapeutic approach is strength based, focused on her clients’ specific needs, goals and changes the client wants to make. She believes in providing a safe space for her clients while building a strong, therapeutic alliance. Her goal is that clients are seen, heard, valued without judgment so they can explore their highest potential.
She utilizes EMDR, Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy models. She also has training in Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga which she uses as an adjunctive treatment with trauma therapies. Annemarie is a member of the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association, Illinois Counseling Association and the EMDR International Association.
She spends her free time exercising, practicing yoga &meditation, cooking, gardening, reading and traveling with her family. She has been married for over 20 years and is the mother of two teenage sons.
Annemarie Husser received her Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 1999. She earned her Clinical Professional Counselor Licensure (LCPC) in 2004. Annemarie is certified in EMDR and has been treating adults, adolescents and children utilizing EMDR therapy which is a powerful method of psychotherapy to relieve distress and trauma related symptoms, since 2001.
